Details Details Close Description Jacques Villon Untitled (Two Nudes), 1958 Graphite on vellum The artist Jacques Villon was the eldest brother of Marcel Duchamp, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Together with a handful of others, they founded the Puteaux Group (or Section d’Or) of modernists in Paris. Villon was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, the Carnegie Prize, and awarded the Grand Prix at the Venice Biennale in 1956. Villon’s work is found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, MOMA, the National Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. While his prints are plentiful, the artist’s drawings are rare, and this gem depicting two classical nudes in modernist style is a masterpiece. Each figure is shown in motion, gesturing in conversation, with rippling musculature and faces out of ancient Greek statuary. The drawing is signed and dated, and inscribed (somewhat illegibly) to “Walter H_____” less DIMENSIONS 15ʺW × 0.75ʺD × 19ʺH STYLES FigurativeModern FRAME TYPE Framed ART SUBJECTS Figure PERIOD 1950s ITEM TYPE Vintage, Antique or Pre-owned MATERIALS Graphite CONDITION Good Condition, Original Condition Unaltered, Some Imperfections COLOR Tan TEAR SHEET CONDITION NOTES Condition typical of age and wear.
