Details Details Close Description RODOLPHE CAILLAUX French, 1904-1990 Bouquet of flowers, oil on canvas, signed lower right, overall (with frame): 23″h x 20″w in bold, vibrant red, blue, gray, yellow gold and black colors. Born in Montmartre, Paris, France in 1904 School of Paris Painter and Lithographer Rodolphe Caillaux is known for his Expressionist paintings of landscapes, portraits and Basque genre scenes. He also made a sculpture for the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) a medal of Maurice Ravel. A street bears his name to Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Rodolphe Caillaux made his debut as a painter at the Salon des Indépendants in 1928, at the same time as Raymond Feuillatte, Alexander Calder, Otto Freundlich, Jean Helion, Georges Papazoff and Joaquin Torres Garcia. He entered the Salon d’Automne in 1932. With the start of the war he moved to Pau in 1940. He helped organize the Salon d’Automne Béarn. He returned to Paris in 1947. Settled in the city of Montmartre-artists 189, Rue Ordener, Rodolphe Caillaux remains close to Pau since he was inducted member of the Royal Viguerie Jurançon in 1953 to the rank of dignitary. Elected the same year member of the Committee of the Salon des Independants, he was the Vice-President from 1955 to 1956. From 1957 he took charge of a group at Salon Comparisons which he became president following Andrée Bordeaux-Le Pecq. It is as president of Salon Comparaisons that he is named knight of the Legion of Honor (the request was formulated by his friend Maurice Boitel as a representative of the Salon Committee.) Rodolphe Caillaux was a member of the Salon d Fall in 1957 and Honorary President of Comparisons. Nephew of Joseph Caillaux, he counted, among his close fellow friends, Jean Baudet, He exhibited in his gallery in Biarritz and Caillaux invited him in to his group at the Salon Comparaisons, as well as Maurice Boitel, group leader at “Comparisons” for forty five years.
