“Pensive” Contemporary Original Nude Painting on Paper by Bess Cutler

Details Details Close Description It started out abstract, but I became involved in the slightly dour colors of the flesh that I enhanced with the soft painterly bluish-grays in the background. Over time working on this piece, the quality of the paint became so rich it started to look like oil paint. It had depth and character also reflected in the self-enclosed pose. I like especially the shapes of the figure, the distortion of her arm with her right leg both squeezing her breasts into overly long pendulous twin breasts. And her small head resting on top of this magnificent huge arm. Little toes and fingers peeking out from bottom weights create a scale change in making top shapes so large. Latex paint, charcoal on archival white paper. Paper size is 24 x 19 inches. Excellent condition. Signed by the artist, Bess Cutler (me).
