Details Details Close Description Since March #6 is part of the Pestilence Series. I felt a need to say something about the situation both locally and globally—about the unceasing flood of hate and death, about the resilience and hope fundamental to mankind—and my personal relationship to it. The definition of a pestilence is any infectious, fatal disease that is widespread or an evil influence or deliverer. The four-year span of 2017 – 2020 saw the re-emergence of fear in a way we have not seen in some time, a fear brought on by ignorance and egomania. It has also shown endurance and the ability to believe we are better. We have seen a virus take lives and we have seen the viral spread of hate, but at the same time we have witnessed uprising and selfless dedication to life. These paintings are an expression of my emotional state in direct reference to the “new normal” that I have refused to accept. There is nothing normal about hatred, bigotry, disease, or human suffering. As I finished this series, I found myself believing in hope, in the coming of another “new normal” that will unite and overcome. This 18 x 18 inch oil painting on canvas is stretched on heavy-duty stretcher bars. The sides are white. This piece is not framed.
