Born in Rhode Island, Esther Fuller moved to California where she studied at Mills College with notable modernists including Max Beckman, Marsh and Kuniyoshi. A member of the San Francisco Art Association, the San Francisco Women Artists and Mills College Ceramic Guild, she exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards, including from the De Young Museum in San Francisco and New York’s Metropolitan Museum. Fuller was an accomplished painter and ceramic artist, and a well-known patron of the arts in Oakland, California where she was a driving force behind the formation of the Oakland Museum and served on the Museum Commission for six years, (1957-1963).
